Everyone has their own process for getting track-ready. Some spend months in the garage prepping and modifying, others invest extra money in a race package for their new ride, and yet others drop six figures (or more) on their dream supercar. Everyone wants to get the most out of their track experience, but once the cars are ready, what’s next?

At a recent Edge Addicts event in Austin, I got a close look at some incredible track preparation for drivers of many types of cars. Edge Addicts offers high performance driver education (HPDE), including classroom training and track sessions. I saw instructors work closely with students to apply classroom knowledge and make adjustments to improve their driving skills. Perhaps the coolest part of this event is that it was held at Circuit of the Americas the same weekend as Austin Cars and Coffee, which provided some especially unique options.

The first was a parade lap around the track. Even though this was at a reduced speed, it was an incredible experience for EA students to drive the same turns as the best Formula 1 drivers in the world. This option proved perfect for those who wanted the bragging rights of driving on the track without pushing their cars to the limits. The second option offered students a full-speed night session in their own cars. Holding the event at night meant less heat from the intense Texas sun and gave students some striking views of the track. It was incredible to see the glow of hot brakes light up the darkness.

I have always preached that there is no better racing modification than driving knowledge, and this group of Edge Addicts students applied their new education to a wide assortment of cars — everything from a Mazda Miata to a McLaren, and even a retired police cruiser that had been transformed into a race car. For this group of students, their new driving knowledge was on full display as they took their cars to the track for an unforgettable experience.

It was exciting to see what cars people bring out to the Edge Addicts events at Circuit of the Americas. Edge Addicts also offers HPDE at other tracks like Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, Texas and at the NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans. If you are interested in participating at one of their events, be sure to check out their calendar.
